A Tool for Navigating Modern Communication.
WDYM? started with a simple problem: text messages can be confusing.
The tool was initially designed as a communication support for individuals with social communication-related disabilities who may experience difficulty interpreting tone, intent, sarcasm, vague language, or the unwritten social rules often present in digital communication.
But as we continued developing and sharing the tool, we realized it resonated with far more people than we originally expected.
What began as an accessibility-focused support tool quickly found broader use across everyday life. People began using WDYM? to think through dating conversations, workplace communication, friendships, group chats, difficult conversations, and moments where they simply wanted a second perspective before responding.
At its core, WDYM? is designed to help people pause, reflect, and navigate communication with greater clarity and confidence.
What Is WDYM?
WDYM? is an open-source communication support tool that helps users break down confusing text messages, explore possible meanings, and think through how they may want to respond.
Rather than telling users exactly what to say, the tool is designed to support perspective-taking, reflection, communication, problem-solving, and social understanding in a way that feels practical, accessible, and easy to use.
Why We Created WDYM?
At The Inclusive Pathways Project, we believe meaningful support should extend beyond traditional models and exist within the real-world situations people navigate every day.
WDYM? reflects our commitment to developing creative, practical, and accessible tools that help people navigate communication, relationships, independence, and adulthood in more confident and individualized ways.
